Bridesmaids (2011) - Comedy | Romance

Bridesmaids (2011) - GREAT MOVIE

This movie is fun. From start to finish, fun. It's a laugh a minute comedy usually reserved for an all-male cast, but delivered masterfully by an all-female cast. It's definitely not just for the ladies, men will love this movie as well.
Overall, if you have not seen this, watch it - it will make you laugh all the way through. It's brilliant, just brilliant because it's a chick flick with harsh language, vulgarity and cringe-worthy circumstances which are sadly rare in this genre of film which is often considered trash - 'Bridesmaids' is what chick flicks should be like.

The Tree of Life (2011) - Drama

The Tree of Life (2011) - BAD MOVIE

There is no plot - only a stream of images following two boys through their childhood and also a flashback to the the creation of the earth. The cinematography was quite impressive, but the overall result was oh-so-dull. I am sure there was a point, but I just could not be bothered to try to understand it.
All in all, style over substance, imagery over story, and a waste of time.

Carnage (2011) - Comedy | Drama

Carnage (2011) - BAD MOVIE

"Carnage" is a film that tries to highlight the fact that adults can be just as childish as kids. But, they fail miserably to convey this correctly. See, they actually act like adults and are a little paranoid with one another like any adult would be. It's only when they start drinking that they become idiots. This movie is so obnoxious, boring, uninteresting and very short (Thank God!).

The Divide (2011) - Horror | Sci-Fi | Thriller

The Divide (2011) - BAD MOVIE

The movie is one big wimp fest with tantrums galore, nonsensical and whimsical deviance, and absolutely no plot. The characters where all immature, behaving like children from the onset and continuing through till the end of the movie.
Well in short, all I can say is that I lost my time with this typical garbage. Nothing special to see here folks, move along.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011) - Action | Adventure | Thriller

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011) - BAD MOVIE

Yes, it's true, this film has got not one single believable scene in it. Easily the worst in the MI franchise. The story is underwhelming and lacking a clever/complex layered story, and is instead a sappy, corny, comedic parody of previous MI films. So, if you are expecting hi-octane drama, nail biting suspense, and memorable acting, skip MI-4.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol = MI-4: Toilet Protocol.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011) - Action | Fantasy | Thriller

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011) - BAD MOVIE

Marvel's 'Ghost Rider' is pretty much another one of those horrible presents that are covered in beautiful giftwrap. It starts off poorly and then goes where? My proper answer would be: Who cares? But if you still want to waste precious time then just watch this horrendous movie which has very good special shaky cam effects.
R.I.P. Ghost Rider on film. (Born in 2007- with a good film. Died with an awful film- 2012.)

P.S. Thanks for filming in Romania!

The Vow (2012) - Drama | Romance

The Vow (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

The movie will definitely put a smile on your face. It's a romantic drama with a few brushes of comedy thrown in. It's true that these types of movies aren't original, but that doesn't bother me too much as long as the product is good.
The ending could have been better I will admit that, it's hard to watch a movie when the whole thing leaves you breath taking and then you get to the end and you're like "Wow, really that's it?" it's just not as exciting of a movie when that happens, so I'd change that up a little bit. So, I would like to conclude by saying, 'The Vow' is worth a watch. Not just for all the lovebirds out there, but for everyone!

Wyatt Earp's Revenge (2012) - Drama | Western

Wyatt Earp's Revenge (2012) - BAD MOVIE

This movie was so terrible I didn't even make it through the first scene. The movie opens showing some rancher randomly hammering on a piece of farm equipment from the mid 1950's. Then once he done hammering he pretends to grab the 1/4 inch steel and bend it with his fingers like he is superman or something. Come on!
Save your time/$$$ and pass this pathetic excuse of a movie by.

Loosies (2012) - Comedy | Drama | Romance

Loosies (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

Seeing the movie, titled so appropriately, will make the audience sit up and pay attention to Peter Facinelli in a totally new realm of respect. He is very good!
The plot is pretty simple, but overall it's a cute little rom-com. 'Loosies' got a bit of gangster situation, it's got a bit of incompetent short-tempered cop situation, it's got a bit of a con man hilarity, but the movie is so not that heavy, you wouldn't mind the fact that the film hides in it being decent, no more no less. Definitely above average.

Birdsong (2012) - Drama | History | Romance

Birdsong (2012) - BAD MOVIE

What a wasted opportunity. That should have been a fantastic 2 part drama. But it so wasn't. I could have spent that 3 hours ironing. Or sleeping. Or staring deeply into my lovers eyes trying to find the words to... to.. to... OH FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
The story was laid out so badly, you don't know how one character got to the place they were in a relationship, and there was no build-up whatsoever. Scenes jumped back and forth and there was no logical sequence of events. It's also full of idiocy. Soldiers in the tunnels wear full kit despite the heat and enclosed space. The lovers leap straight to oral sex (in 1910!) in a Bad Sex Award-winning performance. The protagonist acts like an ass (drawing his revolver on a subordinate, psychologically tormenting a man caught sleeping on duty).
In summary then, one to avoid and read the book instead.

The Artist (2011) - Comedy | Romance | Drama

The Artist (2011) - GREAT MOVIE

Everything about this film is exceptional. The acting is top-notch, the story is intriguing, and despite being black and white, the film is visually appealing. The filmmakers really make great use of the medium, and even though there are no voices or color, my interest was never lost. It speaks clearly and loudly to movie lovers everywhere. "The Artist" is artistique, fantastique, magnifique, et très charmant.
VERDICT: The risky experiment in the era of 3D and IMAX, but the most charming film of the year. TO WATCH: if you don't want to miss the most festive movie of the year.

We Bought a Zoo (2011) - Comedy | Drama | Family

We Bought a Zoo (2011) - GOOD MOVIE

After not wanting to watch "We Bought a Zoo", all I wanted to do was buy a zoo! Probably Matt Damon's most stellar performance and an amazing cast, made one of the best movies I have seen in a while. And the most fascinating part is that it was a true story. Amazing that all that emotion, all that passion and adventure was real.
"We Bought a Zoo" has a hopeful message of taking chances and gambling on life through 20 seconds of insane courage, loving people, and adventurous, unadulterated joy. And if you're still asking why you should watch this movie, just say to yourself.. why not?!

Perfect Sense (2011) - Drama | Romance | Sci-Fi

Perfect Sense (2011) - BAD MOVIE

So you spend 1.5 hours looking at people who's world is collapsing and then the movie is over. I just wonder what the, a-star, actors thought when they were asked for this film. I'm sure they asked: what is the story about? And the the director would say: well we start with people loosing their smell, then their hearing and then they go deaf and blind and then THE END. Geez, that sounds like a great movie, please pick me!
Really disturbing, really unfinished, safe your time for a good movie...

The Sitter (2011) - Comedy

The Sitter (2011) - BAD MOVIE

'The Sitter' is a deflated comedy robbed of all laughs, jokes, and originality. It knows formula well, but doesn't know where to go from there. It relies on lackluster stereotypes, recycled jokes, and caricatures to function inside its dead formula. It's a miserable comedic workout.
'The Sitter', in my opinion, "sometimes laughable, but dull and pointless".

Camel Spiders (2012) - Horror | Sci-Fi

Camel Spiders (2012) - WORST MOVIE

The story is thin... giant camel spiders attack. When you shoot them, they die. There is no subtext, there is no intellectual theme here. Just a creature feature gone horribly awry.
This movie should be avoided - the fact that people made some effort with such a terrible movie is really regrettable - don't compound that by watching it!

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) - Adventure | Drama | Mystery

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) - BAD MOVIE

I get what the film was about and I understand about family values and love (and the 9/11 thing), but the storyline could have been so much better, it was just dragged out. In a nutshell a boy finds a key that his Dad left him and travels around the city following clues to try and locate what the key opens, only it turns out (after two and a half hours) that his Dad didn't actually leave him the key in the first place. O.M.G. Utterly Pointless. It was very frustrating and annoying.
If you like to sit back and be emotionally assaulted by a ridiculous story, this movie is for you. For the rest, I suggest you keep it extremely muted and incredibly far away.

Dark Tide (2012) - Adventure | Drama | Thriller

Dark Tide (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

Extremely impressive camera work. True, it didn't get the goose bumps, but was treated to an amazing photography especially the larger shark shots in the Shark Alley. Halle Barry looked a little woody in the beginning, but then came into her own as he movie progresses. Oliver Martinez was impressive though and could do with some meaty roles. This movie deserves to be watched.

Best Laid Plans (2012) - Drama

Best Laid Plans (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

Throughout the film, it's funny, uncomfortable, tender and shocking in equal measure... There are no bombs, flames or explosions but there is plenty of grit, pathos and some tidy cinematography and also strong performance by both lead actors.
It is a very "British" film and if you're expecting a "Hollywood" blockbuster this might not be the film for you.

Young Adult (2011) - Comedy | Drama

Young Adult (2011) - GOOD MOVIE

Growing old can be tough for a lot of people. This movie gives an intriguing examination of this fact and incorporates it into a fine story. The movie is equal parts hilarious and awkward, and hilariously awkward. But there are moments in which it's so awkward, it's not funny. And those moments aren't trying to be. Charlize Theron's performance is the highlight of the movie.
Overall, I was very pleased with it, even having no expectations at all to speak of.

ATM (2012) - Horror | Thriller

ATM (2012) - BAD MOVIE

The plot, how to trick ATM surveillance cams. Level of excitement, none. This movie is too predictable, you can tell what will be the next frame. Stupidity, a lot in this movie. My biggest problem, though, is that the creators of this film are just laughing at us, the viewers. You don't know WHY this murderer is a murderer; you don't know WHY he picks the places he picks; you don't know ANYTHING. Nothing matters. There's no story arc or plot.
I would not recommend this to you at all.

Don't Let Him In (2011) - Horror | Thriller

Don't Let Him In (2011) - BAD MOVIE

Well, I always try to find something positive in any movie, but here my empathy is really stretched to it's outer limits (and beyond). This is just one very bad movie! Even for a non-pretentious slasher flick like this, there's no other qualification. It was as if a middle schooler with no imagination wrote it and never had it edited. The film was predictable and lacked any suspenseful moments. In addition, the plot failed to make any sense. The way the characters were killed off gave no real reason to the question, why?
Loss of time for who appreciates a good film! Don't let him in you your TV!

The Son of No One (2011) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

The Son of No One (2011) - GOOD MOVIE

'The Son of No One' is a good police thriller with some nice twists and great actors. The movie is largely focused on themes we've seen before like police corruption and post-9/11 repercussions, and like many other films of its genre, it values violence over character enrichment. Though it doesn't break any new ground, it's still engaging as both a thriller and a mystery.
All in all, big names, big stars each in their own right, attracted me to the movie, the rest made me like it.

Machine Gun Preacher (2011) - Action | Biography | Crime

Machine Gun Preacher (2011) - GREAT MOVIE

Very well developed characters, storyline and amazing acting/plot. I was a little upset in the beginning and thought the movie will turn out to be cheesy, but it really takes hold on you after a few initial disappointments and doesn't let go until the end. Buttler fits the unstable "born again, dead again" character extremely well and delivers an extremely believable performance.
You will have to prepare yourself for a very horrifying story! You will not forget this movie for a long time! Hopefully this movie will go bigger and beyond - and it will help and assist in fight against this terror!
Definitely a must see and definitely a masterpiece!

Albert Nobbs (2011) - Drama

Albert Nobbs (2011) - GOOD MOVIE

Visually, Albert Nobbs had a fairy tale feel to it. I would say it was an atypical movie without political agenda. A simple, but highly intelligent story full of life and character detail. The viewer is satisfied that the secret battle for female emancipation continues despite the tragedies along the way.
Beautifully filmed with glorious attention to detail, Albert Nobbs is a story that comes back to haunt you.

A Monster in Paris (2011) - Animation | Adventure | Comedy

A Monster in Paris (2011) - GOOD MOVIE

At first, I felt unmoved by the beginning and wondered where the film was going to be heading, but I was not disappointed! The movie laid out a simplistic style, interesting characters and beautiful music.
Among the highlights of the film are the many appealing visuals drawn from the period Parisian setting. Another highlight is the rich musical score. These almost make the film a cut above, were it not weighed down by some of the more mundane elements.
All in all, a very enjoyable experience for kids or adults.

Abduction (2011) - Action | Drama | Mystery

Abduction (2011) - BAD MOVIE

I couldn't help but laugh at how poorly done this film was. It is full of clichés and pointless macho jingoistic rubbish. Some of the more famous members of the cast must have really had nothing better to do and just taken the money and tried not to worry about being involved. Awful acting. Awful plot. Awful movie.
Overall, a hopelessly bland, derivative, poorly acted and stilted movie.

Carjacked (2011) - Thriller

Carjacked (2011) - BAD MOVIE

This movie is so far-fetched that I found myself yelling at the television due to the lead's stupidity: "Just call the police, lady! Just call the damn police!" Without going into detail, I got sick of the movie about 45 minutes into it. The characters were very weak, and the plot was horrible.
So be warned, your time will be wasted for nothing.

The Grey (2012) - Action | Adventure | Drama

The Grey (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

If you are a wolf, you probably will not appreciate this movie. Man's best friend is his dog; man's worst enemy is the dog's first cousin, the wolf, that is, if you are stuck in the middle of wolf country. This movie strongly suggests that wolves, and maybe all animals in general, have a sense ownership. In this movie, the wolves move about in military-like precision and manage not only to out-brutalize but outwit their helpless human intruders. The story is told in such a way that when people die, it's not for our entertainment, but to highlight the unpredictable nature of ... nature, and life and death.
All in all, this movie was not only a feast for the eyes, but a getaway from all the regular Hollywood fair and blockbusters being poured out nonstop. A must see for anyone who like action/adventure, suspense/thrillers and dramas with great acting

War Horse (2011) - Drama | History | War

War Horse (2011) - GREAT MOVIE

This is a wonderful "against all odds" inspirational story about courage and relationships. The entire movie is full of heart and soul. Everything about it is absolutely great - story, action, emotion, characters, performances, cinematography, music, sound. The performances in the film are all very heartfelt and convincing. Everything is very well-balanced and well-paced, between action scenes and character interactions. And it's one of the most emotional movies I've ever seen. War Horse is, in my opinion, definitely one of Steven Spielberg's better films, and possibly his best to date.
I cannot give a film any higher recommendation than I give this one. You will be moved to tears. Everyone in the family will enjoy it and you'll be pleased that you "participated" because you will be fully invested in this story emotionally.

One for the Money (2012) - Action | Comedy | Crime

One for the Money (2012) - BAD MOVIE

If you've ever wondered how bad can a movie be? Then I suggest you avoid seeing this film because it's about as bad as movies can get. What on earth were they thinking when they made this absolute mess of a film? The storyline to me made no sense at all, and included to many characters for you to keep up with. Based on the fact that this movie is based on quite a few books shows that they were kind of out of there depth trying to cram it all into 91 minutes.
All in all, "One for the Money" emerges as a predictable fish-out-of-water comedy without enough laughs.

Columbus Circle (2012) - Mystery | Thriller

Columbus Circle (2012) - BAD MOVIE

This movie is similar to french cheese - it has a lot of holes and it stinks. Poorly-written, poorly-acted, poorly-directed characters in this film are just that, characters. Or rather, caricatures.
Overall, I would say that it is a mildly amusing but pretty forgettable movie that is probably best experienced when not paying full attention to it.

Saturday, March 3, 2012

The Adventures of Tintin (2011) - Animation | Action | Adventure

The Adventures of Tintin (2011) - GOOD MOVIE

'The Adventures of Tintin' CGI animated movie is very good, being very funny to watch from beginning to end. Since I never read the comics, I can't compare the movie with them, with as a movie independent of the comics, it is very good and enjoyable. This movie is a glimpse into the future of cinema.
All in all, I would recommend this movie to everyone. Hats off to the movie crew, they have done a brilliant job getting Tintin to the big screen in 3D.

Sleeping Beauty (2011) - Drama

Sleeping Beauty (2011) - BAD MOVIE

Total waste of time, a severe and astounding lack of story line or plot and any promise of a haunting, thrilling complex tale is a flat out lie. This movie is just a disjointed sequence of odd non relating scenes some of which are totally pointless and the rest are only fairly pointless. I would recommend anyone to watch anything else than this.
