The Great Gatsby (2013) - Drama | Romance

The Great Gatsby (2013) - GREAT MOVIE

The Great Gatsby goes "all in". An example of great modern cinematography, retelling a timeless story that has been told many times before yet now finally in an age where it's magnitude and glory can truly peak.
Visuals are absolutely mesmerizing to the finest detail, timed perfectly, delivered by some exquisite camera work and goose bumps giving shots, completed with suitable costumes and decor, bringing the "Charlestone" era to life with such good taste, accenting it's luxury without over doing it. As for the cast – everybody delivers with such authenticity of emotions and character depth, it's absolutely mind blowing to watch their work unwind before your eyes. Definitely a must see!

We're the Millers (2013) - Comedy | Crime

 We're the Millers (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

"We're the Millers" shows how several misfits on the society bonds together in order to help with drug smuggling. They encountered hilarious situations, annoying tourists and violent criminals. A good thing about "We're the Millers" is that it is just naturally funny without being offensive or pretentious. The vibe is great and the heartwarming elements makes the plot even better to watch.
Share the fun. See it.

Pain & Gain (2013) - Comedy | Crime | Drama

  Pain & Gain (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Pain & Gain is very glossy film, gorgeous at times, and certainly not subtle. It is also an incredibly dark comedy, with a story so ridiculous that it has to be true, and it is. Based on a true crime story, this film does its best to depict what happens when seemingly good-natured crooks get in way over their heads and resort to drastic measures to achieve their American dream.
Although this film may not be everyone's cup of tea, I would highly recommend it.

The Frozen Ground (2013) - Biography | Crime | Thriller

The Frozen Ground (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Although the plot has been heavily misused in other films in the past, this is not your typical serial killer movie. The movie manages to be compelling without going over the top with too much gory details. The atmosphere it creates is very authentic - it really takes you back 30 years ago in Alaska, when these gruesome events unfolded.

That said, it's a generally well-crafted and involving piece that is well worth a look.

Now You See Me (2013) - Crime | Mystery | Thriller

Now You See Me (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

I found the film exciting, and felt from the beginning I should really pay attention to all the small details, scenes were full of smart notes, funny sometimes, and all of its parts connects together like a masterpiece. You will love it if you like magic and mystery, but this movie also combines the two with the modern technology of nowadays which shakes the dust off of magicians shoulders.

The English Teacher (2013) - Comedy | Drama

The English Teacher (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

It's always pleasurable to see talent on the screen. Be that on the shape of a great screenplay, good acting, or a combination of both. "The English Teacher" offers both, and this might not make it a perfect film, but it's quite enjoyable, funny and heartbreaking, and relatively fresh. It doesn't resort to vulgarity to make us laugh, and it certainly reflects the times in an accurate way. It incorporates technology without forgetting the human side of the story, and it centers around a good story.
In the end, things do work out, but it's a hilarious ride from beginning to end, and it's quite a clever script, so enjoy it.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) - Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi

  G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) - BAD MOVIE

It is definitely not worth watching as it would annoy rather than relax, several times you would find yourself sitting up and screaming at the invisible director how stupid the action is. The story is unoriginal and crosses reality very way off. The script is terribly messed by lots of action scenes. If there are conversations going on, I'd say, simplicity is not enough to compensate for the overwhelmingly long time of action. The acting of the characters were just okay, but didn't really moved me.
Overall, this movie is just the same as they say about its predecessor, only a slight worse.

Evidence (2013) - Horror | Mystery | Thriller

  Evidence (2013) - BAD MOVIE

The acting is terrible, the dialogue is terrible, the effects are terrible, the camera-work is terrible, the story is so unoriginal it has been done before in 2012 under the same name, an equally as awful film using the same lost/found concept. Avoid it at all costs!

As Cool as I Am (2013) - Comedy | Drama

As Cool as I Am (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Essentially, this is a film about flawed characters who make flawed choices. They don't always say the right thing or solve all of their problems. They are simply human.
As Cool as I Am asks a lot of questions and, in the end, quietly leaves the audience with deteriorating optimism that maybe Lucy will end up unsatisfied later in life, and at only fourteen, this idea likely hasn't crossed her mind. Writer Virginia Korus Spragg does a smooth job at developing the characters on the surface and subtly evoking commentary on the new generation of kids, many of whom likely to be raised by a more uncertain, rushed generation of people.

The Call (2013) - Crime | Thriller

The Call (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

The story is very original. I thought this was going to be a generic and clichéd thriller, but I never expected a film this original. The film moves a very break-neck speed. This film made me jump many times and made me tense up. This is a film that everyone should see, however if you are easily disturbed than this film is not for you. This does have an intense and disturbing tone. But hey, if you love movies like that, than this is for you.

The Numbers Station (2013) - Action | Thriller

The Numbers Station (2013) - BAD MOVIE

The Number Stations literally has no reason to exist. I really don't understand why films like this get made. This movie is like those novels from authors you've never heard about sold at petrol stations and supermarkets, the kind of fiction that exists purely to shift a small portion of units to generate some kind of income. A potboiler, really. Just a way to keep food on the table for the screenwriter and add to the revenue streams of the film company, in some small way. Avoid it!

Stand Up Guys (2013) - Comedy | Crime

Stand Up Guys (2013) - BAD MOVIE

Al Pacino and Christopher Walken try their best, but they have nothing to work with here. The script is awful and the two characters are lifeless, undeveloped, and have absolutely no chemistry with one another. The writing is surprisingly bad too with more than a handful of awful jokes that become increasingly irritating to listen to. Don't waste your time with this one even if you're a fan of these actors.

Sexy Evil Genius (2013) - Comedy | Drama | Thriller

Sexy Evil Genius (2013) - BAD MOVIE

Plot was full of unsurprising, not so twisting twists, and there was a non existent element of suspense. Story progress, though interesting between different flashbacks, was too predictable and annoyingly senseless. Don't bother!

Jack Reacher (2013) - Action | Crime | Thriller

Jack Reacher (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Jack Reacher is entertaining and a solid film. It is a crime drama genre with some action and a little more humor. It is a story driven film with enough character development to make sense, but leaves some mystery about the main character Jack Reacher to keep it interesting. Having not read the books it is based on, the story was well done enough that I would want to see any future installments of the series.
I would recommend this film to anyone who likes the crime/mystery drama genre or who just likes the actors involved. It is entertaining, engaging, and a good 2 hour 11 min of escapism.

Family Weekend (2013) - Comedy | Drama

Family Weekend (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

This movie is something you had wish you could or would have done with your family if you had/have the opportunity to. This movie is a light comedy which can be pictured as both sensible and irrational at the same time. There were some parts that seemed a bit off like the kid acting like a prostitute, but oh well this movie had a very simplistic and pure hearted concept.
Recommended for those who like quirky family comedies with a slight edge to them and for competitive jump-rope enthusiasts (which I did not know was a thing).

Broken City (2013) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

Broken City (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

The film is a slow, gripping portrayal of politics, love, betrayal and the lust for power. Of murder, shady real-estate deals, adultery and blackmail. What I like about this film is that everyone here has shades of grey, no one is black or white. Probably, the world today is such a place it wouldn't allow anyone pure to truly exist. This is not a film that will blow your mind away, or make you clap with excitement. But, it's a simple story well told.

Blood (2012) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

  Blood (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

The plot line is tangled at times by subplots that don't develop, but in fact that leads to the sense of mental confusion both brothers carry, having committed a crime as cops, burying the evidence only to attempt to distract the truth of the deed that leads to failures. This is a dark film, well acted, with an interesting turn in the tales of how cops face their own actions.

Admission (2013) - Comedy | Drama | Romance

  Admission (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Admission is about a charming and confident lady, who is unexpectedly dumped by her husband. She also finds out about her son who was given up for adoption. Driven by guilt complex, she sets out to do the right thing. With a strong emotional subplot, Admission is engaging and captivates viewers' hearts. The plot flows nicely, and is not contrived or unconvincing at any stage. The romantic comedy subplot is relegated to the side, but it is still entertaining. Enjoy!

A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) - Action | Crime | Thriller

A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Bruce Willis cracks wise. Cars crash. Bullets fly. Things explode spectacularly. If this is what you're expecting from "A Good Day to Die Hard", you won't be disappointed.

Black Rock (2012) - Horror | Thriller

Black Rock (2012) - BAD MOVIE

Black Rock has some of the worst scenes I've seen in a movie in the past years, is boring and got me thinking in several occasions, "what the hell is happening?". Considering the actresses I thought it would be promising, but the only thing promising about Black Rock is that, eventually, it's going to end. An what an ending... Simply terrible.
I do not recommend this movie for anybody.

I Give It a Year (2013) - Comedy | Romance

  I Give It a Year (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

This film is about a newly married couple who in fact don't love each other. They go through marriage counselling to see if they can make it to a year.
I think that the story is very funny. The married couple just annoy each other to bits, and seeing that is already funny. Both of them having set eyes on someone else, and the resulting chaos becomes hilarious and fun. It is presented in a light hearted manner, and even though the couple don't like each other, they don't send out waves of negativity like in other films.  Watch this, it will entertain you!

Iron Man 3 (2013) - Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi

  Iron Man 3 (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

The movie has a perfect emotional balance, it never gets too sad or too comic. It keeps you on edge the whole time. Nevertheless, it has some deep insights and is concentrated more on the people and relationships than the others. It relies on epic fighting scenes that will keep your heart bumping and you will get goose bumps. More importantly, it is not the massiveness of the scenes themselves that makes them epic, but it is the choreography of the fighting.  Watch it!

Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) - Adventure | Fantasy

Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Jack the Giant Slayer is a breath of fresh air in family action and adventure. As a lover of fairy tales, this movie will not fail to wet that appetite. Following on from the traditional Jack and the Beanstalk fairytale, this film adds that little bit extra and originality. I would consider this film to be light hearted and family friendly, and yes, it does have a high body count once the giants come into play. The characters are easily liked as well as those who play the evil bad guy are easily hated. With little in the effort to follow the story, one can say that you can sit and enjoy the ride.

Killing Season (2013) - Action | Drama | Thriller

Killing Season (2013) - BAD MOVIE

This film is basically a revenge tale, but this was hyped up several notches because of the extreme torture scenes they want us to see. It becomes a game of alternating one-upmanship on who is torturing who, until the climactic confrontation scene.
Overall, if you don't care about historical events or if you don't care of authenticity of actors and what or who they represent, you would have cheap entertainment and movie to forget within a day.

Mama (2013) - Horror | Thriller

   Mama (2013) - BAD MOVIE

Everything in Mama is painfully clichéd: the story is pedestrian and most of the scares are more of the same. The pace is also slow-moving, with nothing much happens and the revelatory finale is a huge disappointment - especially when the director finally shows the full-bodied creature of Mama. Needless to say, the creature looks too fake with its spotty special effects. Don't bother!

Oblivion (2013) - Action | Adventure | Mystery

   Oblivion (2013) - BAD MOVIE

Unfortunately, I couldn't switch my mind off during this movie, as it was so filled with inaccuracies and flaws that I found it impossible to actually enjoy it. It got to a point where I could think of nothing but everything wrong that was happening.
This movie, set in the much too near future for any of the technology presented to be plausible, is about Jack Harper, a man left on Earth with his assigned partner after Earth's moon has been destroyed by extra terrestrials, and although the human race has won the war, they have been forced to leave Earth and live on Saturn's moon, Titan. The visual effects displayed in this film really are pleasing to the eye, and only these make the movie bearable. This being said, stunning visual effects don't make up for stupidity.

Only God Forgives (2013) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

Only God Forgives (2013) - BAD MOVIE

If you like movies that have a very weak plot, many pointless scenes, the addition of dream sequences that add nothing to the plot and only confuse, characters that are not explained and which it is therefore very hard to care about, and many shots of the characters looking into the distance with little emotion on their face and seemingly little on their mind then this is the film for you. I don't mind films that are unique and don't fit the usual Hollywood format, but there are things that are essential to a good film such as interesting characters, a plot of some sort and some clue as to what is going on being given, but those things are missing from this film. I was so confused and mainly just bored throughout this film. I expected better things from Gosling. What a waste of time, resources, and money!

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) - Adventure | Family | Fantasy

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) - BAD MOVIE

From my point of view this movie is a great mockery of an idea that could be the basis of a great story. The effects are low-budget, lines with no humor, and the actors seem like they received vouchers, that's how much interest they've invested in their role. Mila Kunis in the first part of the film is in the role of a sweet, innocent being, dressed in latex and the second part is changed in a so-called witch mutant. The main figure, the one that the whole story evolves, this wizard of Oz, serves as a hypocritical, greedy and lecherous human being . They say the film is made by Disney and would be dedicated to children, but I think if a child sees this so-called movie, it's gonna cry. I've enjoyed the original story of Oz when I read the book and saw the movie based on the book and I know this is the prequel of the classic story, but I'm really sorry I wasted my time with this garbage!

Parker (2013) - Action | Crime | Thriller

   Parker (2013) - BAD MOVIE

Parker is quite the conundrum. It's not bizarre enough in visuals to be unique, nor is it edited flashily enough to be contemporary. It's not overly violent, exploitive, gratuitous, or edgy in any manner and the story is severely lacking creativity. The combination of Statham and Lopez is curious at best, but Statham doesn't rack up an impressive body count or engage in smartly choreographed warfare, while Lopez fails to be tough, intelligent, or genuinely sympathetic. Parker is not worth watching...

Pawn (2013) - Crime | Thriller

  Pawn (2013) - BAD MOVIE

It's a pretty good nail-biter, but overall fails to nail down a completely satisfying wrap up as things get wild and quite muddled. This kind of stuff works much better on the page than on the screen. Avoid it!

Side Effects (2013) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

Side Effects (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

People take pills every day without thinking about it. Whether they are sick, sleepless, or sad, there is a pill for it. In Side Effects, the viewer gets to see the truth behind the small pills we take for granted. Instead of the pill doing the job, we see the pill do so much more. From the start of Side Effects what is seen on the outside is so much different from what is one the inside, making for a traditional thriller. Just watch it!

Stoker (2013) - Drama | Mystery | Thriller

  Stoker (2013) - BAD MOVIE

I couldn't recommend this film to anyone. It's a shame because I wanted to like it. The cinematography was beautiful and the opening scene was intriguing, but it went downhill rapidly and stayed there. It won't appeal to horror or suspense fans because there isn't any. Fans of good drama can look elsewhere as there's none of that either. And no action, awesome scenes of violence or even romance. So.... who exactly is liking this mess is beyond me.
  Bottom line, waste of time.

The Colony (2013) - Action | Sci-Fi | Thriller

The Colony (2013) - BAD MOVIE

The movie portraits humanity after the ice age has begun. The Colony only explains partially what happened to the planet and why we as humans destroyed it burning all the fossil fuel which contributed to a new ice age, all humanity is lost and the only remains are some "colonies" beneath the earth.
The starting point is quite good, the first minutes of the movie too. Although it is clichéd, it is standard sci-fi, it develop it's characters sufficiently enough but then... it speeds up its downward spiral once the "enemies" appear on the scene. It's like the director throw away the script and said "just put the rock music and kill everyone, because that's cool!". Avoid it!

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013) - Comedy

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone' is funny and entertaining. Sure, it's clichéd and has a relatively weak culmination, but come on, it works. The humor is dark, but at the same, enjoyable and offers good enough laughs.
Grab a tub of popcorn and say abracadabra!

The Purge (2013) - Horror | Sci-Fi | Thriller

The Purge (2013) - WORST MOVIE

The reality is that The Purge is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, an original idea is ruined by huge plot holes, annoying, clichéd and unbelievable characters, bad acting and scripting, and an absurdity that goes beyond 'Sci-Fi' or suspending your disbelief... Save money, actually enjoy yourself, and whatever you do, do not purge!

Trance (2013) - Crime | Drama | Mystery

  Trance (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Trance starts off as an ordinary film about a heist, and the auctioneer goes to a seemingly ordinary hypnosis session. The plot quickly descends to a series of mind bending, reality blurring and thrilling events. The story is engaging and captivating. There are also fantasy scenes mixed with the supposed reality, making viewers think hard as they watch. Danny Boyle successfully entrances the viewers with an amazing plot that always surprises. I find the ending rather disturbing and bloody, and there were a few times I had to close my eyes and wait for the scene to finish. Overall, I enjoyed watching Trance for thrilling plot and interesting subject matter.

Warm Bodies (2013) - Comedy | Horror | Romance

Warm Bodies (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Finally the great zombie romance? Well, maybe not, but it's the closest I've seen. You get to see zombie life from the perspective of a zombie, who starts to get feelings for a girl who's alive. Through a set of circumstances, he "rescues" her and they take refuge in a grounded plane at an airport overrun by the undead. There were several original elements that I had never seen in a zombie movie. First and foremost is the narration by our young zombie giving us insights into his condition. He can barely utter words, but weirdly, in his head, he seems smart and talks normally. I liked that part and I was kinda sorry when he got somewhat better at talking, therefore evacuating most of his thoughts. Second original element was the romance. I wasn't impressed by it, but at least it was slow-building, somewhat charming, avoiding most of the disgusting stuff, and you kind of rooted for them by the end. Watch it!
