Red Lights (2012) - Drama | Mystery | Thriller

Red Lights (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver are a pair of university lecturers by day, and moonlight as supernatural sleuths, revealing the fraud of supposed psychics everywhere and boasting of their success to anyone who will listen. When a world-famous psychic, "Silver", comes to town on a final tour before his retirement, Murphy is determined to prove he is just as much a fraudster as those who have come before him. But, as the twists pile up, everything is not as it seems. What starts out as a rather dull version of "Insidious", evolves into a poignant and charismatic thriller that will have you guessing and chasing the truth alongside the films protagonists. It is a breath of fresh air that has been diligently written to keep you glued to the screen from start to finish. There's one thing you should do, watch 'Red Lights'!

Premium Rush (2012) - Action | Thriller

Premium Rush (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

I've got to say, I loved this movie! Joseph Gordan-Levitt, as Wilee, a bike courier threading through the streets and alleys of Manhatten with the speed of a guy whose bike has no brakes, will spirit you along for the ride of a life-time. An excellent story, loaded with suspense, well told with casting that is absolutely perfect – seriously, there is not one character who is not precisely who he or she shouldn't be - this is one of the rare pictures with nothing left out that should be and nothing included that shouldn't be. I was tempted to close my eyes several times but didn't want to miss anything. Action galore and well done at that. I highly recommend this film!

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - Action | Fantasy | Thriller

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - BAD MOVIE

Milking the spider. This is a yawner re-telling of the first umpteen Spider Man movies with a slightly different bad guy (he's even green). I'm going to put it out on the table. There is no possible "fresh" take on Spider Man at this point. The Spider Man story was played out before this movie was made. So why was this movie made? CHA-CHING. Brand recognition and a guaranteed box office. I honestly don't even think people are going to these horrible super hero movies because they want to see them. Maybe they have kids who are easily entertained, or The Scarecrow is pumping gas into the air that compels us to accept computer graphics en lieu of good movies.
Do not believe the hype and the attacks on the original. This was nowhere near as colorful or fun as the 2002 movie.

Stolen (2012) - Action | Drama | Thriller

Stolen (2012) - BAD MOVIE

You would think Nick Cage would finally stop with the identical and always predictable actions, but this one just hits rock bottom. The moment I saw the trailer I was kind of confused as to wasn't there such movie made just a year ago with Cage? Kidnapped daughter, granddaughter, some cheap fighting scenes and banal storyline is all you can associate with Cage lately. The whole story reminds you of the typical action movies from the mid-90's and everything is so claustrophobic, it is hardly watchable. It feels as if all the action is taking place in one street. The acting is atrocious and I will not even go there with details. Cage is predictable and seems as bored with the role as he was in the second Ghost Rider movie. If you are new to Cage and under 16 you might find this remotely interesting, but otherwise, you could just find 'Gone in 60 seconds' and enjoy it again.

LOL (2012) - Comedy | Drama | Romance

LOL (2012) - BAD MOVIE

A monotonous, dreadful film that follows the gimmicks of social networking and text messaging. I wouldn't classify this as a movie; it falls along the lines of high school trauma and the depressing pokes of a Facebook page. The acting was sub-par and the love story was the equivalent of rusty nails while it focuses on the redundant internet slang we constantly see today. The whole feeling of the film was basically like looking at a Facebook page. Very dull and asinine with the sense of delusional romance forever reminding us how little hope remains for todays youth. If this is what you call quality entertainment then I fear for the sanctity of our Media. Major waste of filming resources and should be shot into the sun for the sake of humanity.

General Education (2012) - Comedy

General Education (2012) - BAD MOVIE

'General Education' follows a young man receives a tennis scholarship to the local University, but has forgot to tell his parents that he didn't graduate. Now he is in a race through the summer to take summer school before his parent's find out the truth while dealing with a new love in his life, and struggling with playing tennis and getting a proper education. This is one of those films that works for what it is going for, but just doesn't offer all that much. I only recommend this movie to teens.

Eden (2012) - Drama

Eden (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

While it is a very simple movie with very little in the way of action or graphic violence it is still a very disturbing and haunting movie that will stay with you for a long time after you have finished watching it.
Jamie Chung as Eden was perfect and she held my attention throughout. Matt O'Leary as the cool and hardened Vaughan was also very believable. The rest of the cast also did an excellent job and made the movie what it was.
Don't watch this movie if you have a weak stomach. Even though there isn't much over the top violence, just the thought of what is going on could turn your stomach.
The fact that it is based on a true story makes it all the more heart wrenching.

Cosmopolis (2012) - Drama

Cosmopolis (2012) - BAD MOVIE

"Cosmopolis" is dull. I haven't read the book, but the story takes you through the life of an extremely rich man whose incessant search for something makes it a painful journey. The dialogues are extreme, where every single detail matters, making the conservation an unbearable boredom. I love movies about the meaning of life and it's numerous interpretations, but sometimes crossing the limits of your curiosity simply drowns you into an endless search without any results. Do not even bother thinking of watching!

Bait (2012) - Action | Horror | Thriller

Bait (2012) - BAD MOVIE

If you've seen it's trailer, you have pretty much seen the movie: there is tsunami, a supermarket is flooded, and trapped inside it, with the water rising, are sundry photogenic young people—plus, sharks. And the sharks are hungry.
All in all, an astoundingly average film. It doesn't really have the laugh out loud ridiculousness of other bad films, nor did it have anything outstanding to make it memorable.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - Comedy | Drama | Romance

Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

I absolutely loved this film. What a work of art. There is a quirky feel to this film and with many unexpected twists and even deeper meaning that can be found if the viewer embarks on a sort of simple treasure hunt. The films protagonists are two young troubled pre-teens and this film is their discovery of love and adventure. The deeper meaning I referred to above has to do with the context of the reasons why these pre-teens were troubled and how they overcame that, I won't spill anymore. I love the dynamics between all the characters and especially the Khaki scouts! Thanks to everyone involved for making something so sweet and beautiful.

Ted (2012) - Comedy | Fantasy

Ted (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

As you might suspect, there's a lot of stupid humor in 'Ted'. When I saw the dumb jokes coming, I would mentally prepare myself to simply hold my breath until it was over, knowing that more intelligent humor would follow. But more often than I care to admit, the "dumb" humor wore me down until I burst out laughing. Sure, 'Ted' is offensive and gross. But it's freakin' funny.
If you like 'Family Guy' or just have a really good sense of humour this is for you.

The Bourne Legacy (2012) - Action | Adventure | Mystery

The Bourne Legacy (2012) - BAD MOVIE

No legacy. No Bourne. No plot. Same chase scenes. Same motorcycle scenes. Same jumping on roof scenes. Same police car chases. Same foot-police chase scenes. Same music at the end of the credit.
The best scene of the movie is probably when Cross was shot by another agent. It shows the intelligence of the shooter timing his shot in motion. Ironically the tagline to this installment is  "There was never just one." There probably should've been.

The Expatriate (2012) - Action | Thriller

The Expatriate (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

For a low budget movie, I will say I enjoy the movie. Has adrenaline, a good story, and let's agree it's not perfect, but give it a chance. The cast, story, intent and execution - are all there. Emphasis of genre is on "thriller" with some fairly good, fast action scenes that appear professional/credible. Main actors all performed well. Secondaries performances were... secondary. This film will not disappoint.

Super Cyclone (2012) - Action | Sci-Fi

Super Cyclone (2012) - WORST MOVIE

'Something is definitely not right', that quote is taken directly out of the movie, and it can very well be used to sum up the entire movie. Do yourself a favor and avoid it!

Moving Day (2012) - Comedy

Moving Day (2012) -  GOOD MOVIE

The humor in 'Moving Day' is eccentric. There is a pleasant balance between humor and 'drama'. The style and setting is original. This is NOT a brainless comedy by ANY means (as you may think by the title, cast and basic description), but rather a very warm, well acted, intelligent, and at times, funny little movie. Watch, enjoy and feel Good!
