Dredd (2012) - Action | Crime | Sci-Fi

Dredd (2012) - BAD MOVIE

I couldn't believe my eyes and ears when watching this one. It just got more and more ridiculous by the minute. The characters are plain and you never really get to feel for any of them and Judge Dread almost feels like a parody. Yes, he is supposed to be cold, almost machine-like, but even the old Robocop made the viewer care for the character, this film does not. Nothing fresh and therefore disappointing.

Hotel Transylvania (2012) - Animation | Comedy | Family

Hotel Transylvania (2012) - GOOD ANIMATION

Cute animation. Has a couple of great messages - especially one about prejudices. There are some adult jokes, some childish jokes, lots of laugh out loud moments, but most importantly the following messages: Hatred against those we don't know is wrong; Let yourself get to know a person before deciding whether they are good or not; and go along for the ride and let yourself enjoy life.
I recommend this to anyone who loves the clichés and anyone who can let down their annoying tough "nothing is original" front and just enjoys a good laugh!

 P.S. Greetings from Dracula's homeland a.k.a Romania! :)

Trouble with the Curve (2012) - Drama

Trouble with the Curve (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

'Trouble With The Curve' is a wonderful movie. The casting, acting, writing, direction, were all superb. The location scenery was beautiful. Clint Eastwood is at the top of his game, he plays his part effortlessly. This is not a baseball movie, it is a father-daughter movie. It will make you laugh, think and cry. Another Clint Eastwood film that Hollywood can be proud of. Go see it.

A Dark Truth (2012) - Action | Thriller

A Dark Truth (2012) - BAD MOVIE

A-List Actors in a B-Movie, what a waste of talent. Only explanation they must have lost a bet or something. Don't actors have agents? And shouldn't they protect them from movies like this? There are already too much bad movies out there, there is no need to do more.

Alex Cross (2012) - Action | Crime | Mystery

Alex Cross (2012) - BAD MOVIE

The opening scene... where do I start? The cheesiest, tackiest film shots, music, and dialogue I've ever seen in a "serious" film since the 90's. And it continues from there. One particular shot where the "bad guy", Fox, cuts off the fingers of a victim yet there appears to be no blood on the weapon that he is holding in his hands in the same scene. What kind of director misses that?! The acting is atrocious as is the character development. There is no flow in anyway shape or form.
I can't seem to find anything positive to review about this film so I'll leave it at that.

Grabbers (2012) - Comedy | Sci-Fi | Thriller

Grabbers (2012) - BAD MOVIE

This so called movie is nothing short of a huge waste of time. If you are looking for a grown up opinion on whether to watch this movie or not, I'm here to tell you NOT! Here's the bottom line on this horrible attempt of a movie, it's corny, poorly written, poorly acted, the special effects are juvenile and amateur, the storyline is not funny, it's just stupid. Don't bother!

Liberal Arts (2012) - Comedy | Drama

Liberal Arts (2012) - BAD MOVIE

'Liberal Arts' comes out of the gate with a funny enough opening scene. Then follows it up with 90 minutes of irritating, contrived garbage. Things happen in the plot, of course - but you won't care. The movie goes through various motions and is surrounded by music and camera moves. But none of it matters a bit, because you won't care about the characters.  Save the time and money. See something else.

Liz & Dick (2012) - Biography | Drama

Liz & Dick (2012) - BAD MOVIE

This movie dispels all the mystery and magic around this star-spun couple, here portrayed as rich drunks in a whirlwind of self-absorbed emotion. Not for one minute was Lohan believable in the role as Taylor. This role should have been given to a seasoned actress at least in her 30s. Lohan mostly looked like a little kid playing dress-up with her mother's makeup. And what was with her puffy-looking lips? And her double chin? And the AWFUL hair/wigs? And the fake eyelashes that always looked like they were about to fall off? It's a shame she was cast in this role - they used her for publicity knowing the movie would end up being nothing more than a silly parody.

Pusher (2012) - Crime | Thriller

Pusher (2012) - BAD MOVIE

I haven't seen the original so I can't compare to it, but the plot is incredibly thin, just an endless chain of events, that follow on from each other with no particular cohesion. An ending that leaves you feeling frankly conned, and some situations that even in the realms of the movie word are unbelievable. The worst part is the complete lack of exploration of the characters and events. Despite the small cast you come out feeling you know very little about the characters, and equally you care very little for any of the characters. There are no real good guys, no bad guys, just a whole bunch of indifference. Don't bother!

That's My Boy (2012) - Comedy

That's My Boy (2012) - WORST MOVIE

The basic storyline is this Adam Sandler gets his teacher pregnant, now he's mooching off his much more successful son. Done! That's it! No deep storyline, no meaning behind it, just done. Avoid at all costs.

The Baytown Outlaws (2012) - Action | Comedy | Crime

The Baytown Outlaws (2012) - BAD MOVIE

Basically the film is made for red neck hicks and is about red neck hicks. The storyline of 3 brothers who kill anyone regardless of who they are for money does not allow the characters to develop in anyway what so ever. The action is average at best and basically goes from one terrible scene to the next. Avoid at all costs. Horrible film with no redeeming qualities at all.

The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) - Action

The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) - BAD MOVIE

Most definitely Quentin Tarantino's name has been misrepresented. Please do not watch this movie unless you want to part with 96 minutes of your precious life. There is no storyline or theme. It's not even interesting, just fighting, killing, knifing, blood, and guts. All in all total waste of time.

The Words (2012) - Drama | Romance

The Words (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

'The Words' is not at all what you think it will be. It's about 3 different stories, about many different things, but I assure you the end will leave you breathless with disbelief. The storyline is fascinating and you never wanted the story to end. The script is engaging and the whole direction of the movie is super. If you are looking for a movie, this is absolutely one that you should see.

The Details (2011) - Comedy

The Details (2011) - BAD MOVIE

Don't bother with this movie. The premise was bad. The execution was bad. The acting was overdone and overindulgent. Unless you find coerced adultery with a batsh** crazy woman and murder funny I wouldn't go in to this movie expecting laughs. Do yourself a favor and pass on this truly horrendous movie.

Here Comes the Boom (2012) - Action | Comedy

Here Comes the Boom (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

This is a movie that you should see if you want to walk away uplifted and happy. I was pleasantly surprised, didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. This is what movies were meant to be, a break from reality and a chance to believe that all can be good in the world. You will either be roll over laughing or not get it, so if you are one of those who won't get it, you won't appreciate it.

Brave (2012) - Animation | Action | Adventure

Brave (2012) - GREAT ANIMATION

Fairy tales are traditional and nobody messes with tradition, right? Price Charming wins the hand of the fair princess and they live happily ever after. But Merida is a tomboy at heart with red unruly hair who loves riding horseback through the woods mastering an archery course. And the princes from the neighboring clans are far from charming. So of course Merida seeks out a spell to change tradition and of course the spell goes all wrong. In the end, the real question isn't will they live happily ever after but who will learn from the experience. I am so glad Disney has created another "anti-princess" like Mulan. Not all girls have to love pink and fancy dresses. Some can wield swords or bows and fight for what's right.
I love the movie, and I will definitely be watching it again. Do I recommend it? YES!

End of Watch (2012) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

End of Watch (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

Excellent movie, brilliantly cast, containing 'found footage' and perfect cinematography. David Ayer delivers a realistic plot that draws the viewer into the action of the story, to share the emotion and adrenaline with the main characters. Ayer conveys the courage and humanity of the police force without overly glorifying it. He covers all aspects of the life of a cop, the external relationships, the off duty trials and tribulations that they face, romance and the concern or fear of their loved ones. He dips into the psychology of the criminal, focusing on gang mentality, but bringing into the film glimpses of the types of traumatic events that the police are often forced to witness which can compromise their own psyche. 'End of watch' is a movie to be watched again and again.

Bad Karma (2012) - Thriller

Bad Karma (2012) - BAD MOVIE

Not 'Bad Karma', just a really bad, bad movie. The plot of this story is passable, the acting from both leads is atrocious, the music is woeful, the ending is just ludicrous. Don't waste your time!

For a Good Time, Call... (2012) - Comedy

For a Good Time, Call... (2012) - WORST MOVIE

A perfect example of a movie that had absolutely no reason to be made, that has nothing original, intelligent, or entertaining to offer. Old, lazy, and tired, unimaginative, sitcom "writing", characters and situations. If you dislike being amused, challenged, or stimulated - go waste an hour-and-a-half having your intelligence insulted by this pointless exercise in vapidity.
All in all, do yourself a favor and stay away!

Sinister (2012) - Horror | Mystery

Sinister (2012) - BAD MOVIE

So what makes 'Sinister different? Well, nothing really! The movie starts with promise, but quickly slides into the ridiculous and ultimately the monotonous. The cast never quite seem to gel on screen as a family. The dialogue between them seems clunky and unnatural. When the supernatural element eventually kicks off the special effects feel and look extremely amateurish and leave you feeling cheated. The drama that unfolds in several key scenes in the movie are poorly executed and at times are more likely to result in a snigger than a gasp. With a wafer thin narrative there's very little here to keep you guessing for its 110min running time... In short, give 'Sinister' a pass.

The Bay (2012) - Horror | Sci-Fi | Thriller

The Bay (2012) - BAD MOVIE

What's a target audience of this movie, really? Chicken lovers? Water engineers of some kind? Water biologists? Doctors? Policemen? Eco-terrorists? Vegans? Journalists? Newscasters? Really, that's a question I repeated to myself while watching "The Bay". There's no drama because personal stories are so short and superficial that you don't have time to even memorize names only that stupid screams "oh my, something is wrong with me". Sure, dude, you are playing in this mess, that's really wrong. Did you have a chance to read a scenario before? Pass on this one.

Lawless (2012) - Crime | Drama

Lawless (2012) - BAD MOVIE

The film is supposed to be based on a true story. I am sure that there is a grain of truth in that. Yet, it doesn't come out in the finished product. Good old boys just out to make a living are by far too good to be true. The big smoke villains are government officials, which had gone rotten past the core, are more than a tad too villainous. And the ending goes beyond the call of duty to show that the problem was (an by implication still is) with the big government. If only, the good old country folk were left to themselves to sort their problems.
The film is also badly paced, the script is jerky and the anticlimactic finale is the final letdown. Skip it!

Butter (2012) - Comedy

Butter (2012) - BAD MOVIE

There are plenty of well known actors in this (Jennifer Garner, Alicia Silverstone, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Ty Burrell, etcetera) but none of them truly makes a lasting impression. Besides, some of them only appear in small roles, such as Hugh Jackman. The movie also shows some hints of a social satire in it, but it just isn't being quite witty enough to let it all truly work out. So "Butter", like butter, can be good or bad, depending on how you use it. Enjoy the taste and accept the fatty consequences, or make the effort to settle on something healthier. But more often than not, it's best left in the fridge.

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) - Action | Horror | Sci-Fi

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) - WORST MOVIE

None of 'Resident Evil: Retribution' can be taken seriously nor even enjoyed on a visceral or ironic level. The film starts off with a flashback, then a long expository intro chronicling the past films, then some virtual experience, and, after twenty minutes of that zero-momentum introduction, 'Resident Evil: Retribution' continues to halt its wheels for exposition-driven dialogue, inconsequential fight scenes, and a badly repetitive score which thinks this is all much cooler than it really is.
Verdict: Worse than filthy zombies. Get it?

The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012) - Comedy | Drama | Fantasy

The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012) - BAD MOVIE

The film lacked authenticity or at least a sense of minimal believability in a fairytale. This is yet another movie that seems to tell us that children are wiser than their parents, but I will make an exception here because we were dealing with a miraculous kid. I know the story is fictional, but even so I never believed the father and son relationship, and the movie really never connected with me. Like the title suggests it felt too odd and weird. There is not much more I can say about this film, you either love it or hate it. With me it failed to make any connection whatsoever, but it is a sweet family friendly film. I didn't find it to be very emotional although it does try to be a tearjerker. It never reached that emotional level or touching moment that I was hoping for. No magic for me here...

The Apparition (2012) - Horror | Thriller

The Apparition (2012) - BAD MOVIE

The actors looked like they were reading from cue cards the entire film. Nothing in movie was realistic or believable. Basically take a horror film, water it down (20% horror 80% water) and there you have it. This movie... it's short, never gets to the point and basically should've never been made. "The Apparition" will remain a could of/should of/would of.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) - Action | Crime | Drama

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

'The Dark Knight Rises' is a lot more daring than anyone would expect. It's one of those superhero movies that cares more to heroism than just action. The scale is large and it is so explosive. That is the usual formula of all blockbusters, but here, it uses it in a darker and suspenseful way. It's also a fitting end of this amazing trilogy. In my opinion 'The Dark Knight' is the best of the three. Watch it!

Vamps (2012) - Comedy | Horror | Romance

Vamps (2012) - BAD MOVIE

I had expected either a 'Sex in the City' with vampires or a sexual exploitation of the genre. I did not expect deeper meaning or funny dialogue, and I was pleasantly surprised. But only bits and pieces were thus, while the rest was utter nonsense. Pass!

The Campaign (2012) - Comedy

The Campaign (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

The movie is a marvelous satire on the American political system. It does a job on the effect of money in politics, the mindset of the social conservatives, the fluff answers to questions in debates, the focus on getting reelected over personal beliefs, and especially the lack of any rules in politics.
All in all, 'The Campaign' is funny, a little crude, but a solid film. See it!

Savages (2012) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

Savages (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

"Savages" is Oliver Stone the way we like him - gritty, sexy, and oh-so-violent. This film starts as a simple story of a laid-back crew of Southern Californian pot dealers, but develops into and all out warfare between them and notoriously ruthless Mexican drug cartels, fronted by a very mean Selma Hayek. This is a Hayek we have not seen before - so gritty and dirty, yet so beautiful and elegant. Yet the gang still has their hopes with John Travolta, and he steals the show. We are all subject to the whims of the world, as Stone proves, we are perhaps too connected, too much. The world is not a large place anymore, but a terrifyingly small area, where unscrupulous people create havoc. A great storyline, great acting, depth, drama - all top of the line. Do see this one, it is fresh and new, exciting, and will leave you breathless.

Looper (2012) - Action | Sci-Fi | Thriller

Looper (2012) - BAD MOVIE

This story was written by someone who does not comprehend even the basics of time travel problems and paradoxes. The plot in short: mafia from the future sends their assassination targets into the present to be disposed of; in the present there are killers, so called loopers (organized by a sadist from the future) who await their targets and kill them. Before or later, the looper receives a mission to kill his future self. Some of them fail to do so. And then the chase begins. First of all, the premise is pretty stupid, to use such advanced technology for such mundane goal.
All in all a very bad experience, caused by a fanboy-hype. If you want to see Bruce Willis travel through time, watch „12 Monkeys", a far superior movie in every sense.

Fire with Fire (2012) - Action | Crime | Drama

Fire with Fire (2012) - BAD MOVIE

I want the 97 minutes back that this movie sucked out of my soul. Yeah, it has a good cast, but more importantly, a good enough to have known better than to be in this sorry excuse for a vendetta romance. Don't waste your time watching this cornball, goofy-ass excuse of a movie.

Argo (2012) - Drama | History | Thriller

Argo (2012) - GREAT MOVIE

The film is a perfect balance of drama, intensity, suspense, and laugh out loud funny. Even though you knew the hostages got out, the film was so well done, that it kept you on the edge of your seat till the very end. Kudos to Ben Affleck for directing a truly magnificent film.
On the whole, 'Argo' is a Knockout. It can win Best Picture next year and it won't be surprising if it actually does!

Taken 2 (2012) - Action | Crime | Thriller

Taken 2 (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

The story of this movie is about federal agent Bryan Mills who is targeted by the revengeful relatives of the people he kills in "Taken" while rescuing his daughter from them. He is soon attacked while on holiday at Istanbul with his wife and daughter. The rest of it is about how and if Bryan is able to tackle his enemies.
The film is really fast paced, with cool stunts and car chases, and nail biting thrills from the start to end that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Sure, it has it's flaws, and the camera-work is sometimes choppy, but the point is, if you thoroughly enjoyed the first Taken, you should see this one too.

The Watch (2012) - Comedy | Sci-Fi

The Watch (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

"The Watch" is a funny buddy comedy, filled with crude jokes and the silly shenanigans that you'd expect from Stiller, Vaughn and the rest of the cast. Like a delicious onion the film does a good job peeling away at the story. Yes, it is not hard see the plot coming, but it's how the characters deal with the situations they encounter, that makes the film entertaining. This is a good movie to see, escape the chaotic world and have a few laughs.

Deadfall (2012) - Crime | Drama | Thriller

Deadfall (2012) - BAD MOVIE

I know this is a fictional story, but for me to make a fictional story work it must be somewhat believable or at the very least you should have that "hey, maybe this could really happen" feeling. I just couldn't bring myself to that point. That said, the acting by all was decent, and the story while convoluted and so completely absurd it bordered on ridiculous, the movie was semi-engaging and had enough of the good to keep you watching all the way through to the end. I think somewhere in this crazy story was a decent idea that just got lost. I didn't hate this one, I certainly didn't love it, but it was a decent watch provided you allow yourself to believe the unbelievable.

Magic Mike (2012) - Biography | Comedy | Drama

Magic Mike (2012) - BAD MOVIE

I don't know how these movies get made. I know that not all movies are going to be edifying or eventful. Most are a meaningless waste of time with little benefit except escape. This was so predictable it was pitiful. The production design was nonexistent. The wardrobe was what exactly. I don't know. The camera work was like a 1st year film student in a Midwestern community college. There was nothing in this film to make me care about a single character it contained. If you want to get a tease from a few guys with very nice bodies wearing more than you can see on some beaches. Go ahead.

The Scapegoat (2012) - Drama

The Scapegoat (2012) - BAD MOVIE

The premise is, of course, completely absurd. Is it really possible that any two unrelated strangers could look so much alike that not even a wife, mother or mistress, could spot the difference? Well, no. So, don't watch it!

Total Recall (2012) - Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi

Total Recall (2012) - BAD MOVIE

How can they waste all that money on something this bad? No story, just a lot of running around. And then more running around. The former wife just shows up everywhere. Yes, I know that logic don't apply on this kind of movies, but some realism is to be expected, otherwise it becomes silly. And the acting... well, it's all right but without any memorably appearances. The "original" with Arnie and Stone are way better. More good looking, more interesting, better directed, and with some humor and human touch involved. Avoid this and see the first one instead. You'll be glad you did.

Red Lights (2012) - Drama | Mystery | Thriller

Red Lights (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver are a pair of university lecturers by day, and moonlight as supernatural sleuths, revealing the fraud of supposed psychics everywhere and boasting of their success to anyone who will listen. When a world-famous psychic, "Silver", comes to town on a final tour before his retirement, Murphy is determined to prove he is just as much a fraudster as those who have come before him. But, as the twists pile up, everything is not as it seems. What starts out as a rather dull version of "Insidious", evolves into a poignant and charismatic thriller that will have you guessing and chasing the truth alongside the films protagonists. It is a breath of fresh air that has been diligently written to keep you glued to the screen from start to finish. There's one thing you should do, watch 'Red Lights'!

Premium Rush (2012) - Action | Thriller

Premium Rush (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

I've got to say, I loved this movie! Joseph Gordan-Levitt, as Wilee, a bike courier threading through the streets and alleys of Manhatten with the speed of a guy whose bike has no brakes, will spirit you along for the ride of a life-time. An excellent story, loaded with suspense, well told with casting that is absolutely perfect – seriously, there is not one character who is not precisely who he or she shouldn't be - this is one of the rare pictures with nothing left out that should be and nothing included that shouldn't be. I was tempted to close my eyes several times but didn't want to miss anything. Action galore and well done at that. I highly recommend this film!

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - Action | Fantasy | Thriller

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - BAD MOVIE

Milking the spider. This is a yawner re-telling of the first umpteen Spider Man movies with a slightly different bad guy (he's even green). I'm going to put it out on the table. There is no possible "fresh" take on Spider Man at this point. The Spider Man story was played out before this movie was made. So why was this movie made? CHA-CHING. Brand recognition and a guaranteed box office. I honestly don't even think people are going to these horrible super hero movies because they want to see them. Maybe they have kids who are easily entertained, or The Scarecrow is pumping gas into the air that compels us to accept computer graphics en lieu of good movies.
Do not believe the hype and the attacks on the original. This was nowhere near as colorful or fun as the 2002 movie.
