Life of Pi (2012) - Adventure | Drama | Fantasy

Life of Pi (2012) - GREAT MOVIE

The film is an celebration of visionary cinematography, top-notch 3D development and poetic story telling. Not mentioning its awesome screenplay.
It's a true masterpiece that only Ang Lee's genius can manifest from Yann Martel's fabulous writing. It is a kind of stories that send its hanging-in-the-air message through a unique fantasy, which incredibly feels real. Pi's relationship with tiger named Richard Parker in life and death situations describe human's relationship with its creator: God always understands human perfectly and human can never understand God's perfection.
'Life Of Pi' without any overstatement is a landmark achievement. It's a shining crown jewel in this oceanic, gigantic world of cinema. Something to be cherished and admired. And something that doesn't happen very often.

"I just told you two stories. Which one do you prefer?" "The one with the Tiger." "And so it is with God."
I'm a believer. In something not very different from God I think.
And yes, always "the one with the Tiger."

Identity Thief (2013) - Comedy | Crime

Identity Thief (2013) - GOOD MOVIE

Melissa McCarthy is flat out hysterical. This movie about Jason Bateman having his identity stolen is non-stop laughs from beginning to end. It is very heart warming at the end. Trust me go and see this movie if you feel like laughing. Melissa and Jason are two fine actors that play off each other well. And surprisingly there is also action in this movie too! The physical comedy brings back memories of classic comedies that preceded it. This sight of Melissa running from Jason is enough to bring tears to your eyes. Also, the mean bounty hunter is great! This is definitely the best comedy this year. Although the plot is simple it is very well executed.
Give it a shot and see what you think; you're sure to laugh at some point! :)

Cinderella 3D (2012) - Animation

Cinderella 3D (2012) - BAD ANIMATION

It's a very loose adaptation of the original classic 'Cinderella' story, but fitted into a cowboy theme. I'm not sure they pulled it off all that well. The animation is acceptable, but it's a million miles from the quality of Disney (a totally unfair comparison I know), but it's a very low budget Animation.
I watched the English speaking version and perhaps the original French speaking one would have been better. Hmmm, I guess I got lost in translation.
Only recommended for 4-12 year olds.

The Impossible (2012) - Drama | History | Thriller

The Impossible (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

'The Impossible' provides thrills, suspense, action and heart warming moments. I challenge anyone to not shed a tear or get misty eyed watching this film. The acting was top-notch across the board and I have nothing, but praise for the director and his crew, because I sat admiring the authenticity of the intense, destructive and frightening tsunami scene. Which surprising was the most realistic sequences I've seen in a film as such. I felt many emotions from beginning to end and I gather most will as well.
See 'The Impossible' because you will thoroughly enjoy it. And oh... it's actually based on a true events that involved the family portrayed.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012) - Comedy | Drama | Romance

Silver Linings Playbook (2012) - BAD MOVIE

This film contains a horrific depiction of mental illness that objectifies human beings as caricatures. Cooper's character, who is supposedly the film's primary protagonist, is portrayed in such a disturbing way that an uninformed viewer could not be blamed for thinking that those who are bipolar - a very real illness with very real, good people who suffer from it - are all miserable, violent people who obsess over others to the point of stalking them. His 'character' is then propped up and 'fleshed out' through a collection of tired tropes typically seen in Hollywood's voyeuristic, disrespectful portrayals of those with mental illness.
Avoid this sickening film at all costs, especially if you are someone who suffers from mental illness or are related to someone who does. It handles its subject matter in a way that will disturb you to the point of tears before the movie is even over.

Rise of the Guardians (2012) - Animation | Adventure | Family

Rise of the Guardians (2012) - GREAT ANIMATION

Dreamworks Animation has made many great films and some bad ones, some have become popular franchises (Madagascar, Shrek). Their new film 'Rise of the Guardians' is based on a book series by William Joyce.
The characters are endearing, the storyline quite original and it's very funny (with jokes that often are aimed for adults more than children). It makes you laugh, cry, and believe in magic. But the most brilliant is the visual part and the characters design. All the typical mythological characters that we ever imagined were modified to surprise even the most boring of watchers. It changes your perception forever. Highly recommended!

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012) Adventure | Drama | Fantasy

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012) - BAD MOVIE

I've always hated the "Twilight" movies, but "Breaking Dawn, Part 2" is an atrocious film. Director Bill Condon has disappointed me greatly by making a movie that is cheesy and joyless. Until I saw this movie, I did not realize how awful Kristen Stewart really is. Stewart is a terrible choice for the role of Bella and she nearly ruined "Snow White And The Huntsman". Taylor Lautner's performance is unintentionally funny, but not exactly painful to watch. However, Robert Pattinson is a wonderful actor. It is unfortunate that he is totally wasted in the role of sparkling vampire Edward Cullen. Pattinson was very good in "Water For Elephants". Yes, the performances are really, really bad, but the movie has virtually nothing positive. When I say "virtually", I mean that the score is pretty good. The film's story is vapid and preposterous. When the film finally ends, you will breath a sigh of relief. I would rather be locked in a supply closet for two hours than sit through this horrible movie once more.

Officer Down (2013) - Crime | Drama

Officer Down (2013) - BAD MOVIE

Weak cast, bland story, boring execution and Dorff is just massively cringe. Dominic Purcell and Anna Lynn what's her face... Come on! I wasn't expecting much... But I got less that I anticipated. It's like cast and crew up on this movie 15 mins in.
Avoid it! They're so many other things you could be doing.

Gangster Squad (2013) - Action | Crime | Drama

Gangster Squad (2013)- GOOD MOVIE

'Gangster Squad' tells the story of a small team of Los Angeles cops who take on the task of waging war against the swiftly growing East Coast Mafia presence in their city. Set in 1949 LA, this war is fought with tommy guns, fedoras, and style.
This movie has everything you could ask for, in an action-packed emotional thrill ride, provided that you are able to just let go, and let yourself to be engrossed. For those who prefer films that may have a little less predictability, or people that find themselves unable to maintain the "suspension of disbelief", this movie would be understandably less enjoyable.
The cast and their acting is just about flawless, (though admittedly a bit cliché at times), and the sets and cinematography are superb. Sean Penn is positively frightening, and shines in his role as the villain, while Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling perfectly portray the face of their vigilante-style band of misfits; The Gangster Squad.
All in all, it was a great movie and it's worth the 113 minutes.

Gambit (2012) - Comedy | Crime

Gambit (2012) - GOOD MOVIE

I have not seen the original, so I am unable to compare it, but, with no doubt, I can still give you the truth. This movie  is about an art curator who decides to seek revenge on his horrible boss by tricking him to buy a fake Monet painting.
"Gambit" is a delightful lighthearted comedy about a heist that deviates from the plan. The original plan that Harry had was displayed in the beginning ten minutes of the film, then the rest of the run time is about how things do not go according to plan. Actually everything goes wrong and the situation becomes so hilarious. Colin Firth is great as a frustrated and disgruntled art curator, while Cameron Diaz is charming with her distinctive accent. She makes her character so interesting, her mischievous simplicity is a sharp contrast to how she gets things done in a well controlled manner. The ending twists are well executed, making it a truly Coen script. I find "Gambit" funny and entertaining.

All Superheroes Must Die (2013) - Sci-Fi | Thriller

All Superheroes Must Die - BAD MOVIE

This is one of those movies that needed a bigger budget. Although that wouldn't have helped much either. The story is bland and there is almost no creative ideas in this movie. The fact that the characters in this movie is suppose to be superheroes is almost irrelevant to the plot. Save your time and money!
